Has been married to Yvette for 29 years and has 3 sons, R.J., Tyler, and Brendan. R.J. now lives in Olympia, WA where he works for the city of Dupont and has 2 children of his own, Charlotte and Christian. Tyler and Brendan played volleyball for Hickory High School from 2013-2019. Tyler is now the Assistant Women’s Volleyball Coach at Ferrum College and the assistant director for the River Valley Juniors volleyball club in Blacksburg, VA. Brendan coaches high school and club volleyball in Richmond, VA.

Served in the Navy for 22 years. While in the Navy, he attended The Citadel where he played club volleyball and earned his B.S. in Computer Science. He later received his Master of Business Administration from Old Dominion University. Since retiring from the Navy in 2012, he has been working as a simulator instructor, training Naval Flight Officers to operate the systems of the E-2C/D Hawkeye.

He was the Head Boys Volleyball Coach at Hickory High School from 2017-2023. He was selected as the Region 5A Coach of the Year in 2021 after coaching the team to the State Championship Tournament for the first time in school history, reaching the State Semifinals.
